I had an eBay store for a couple of years, became a Power Seller, and loved every minute of it. My needs have changed since then so I don’t have my store any more, but when I kept up with it it was one of the best investments I ever made.
There are a lot of people who are afraid of selling on eBay, and it is true that there are lots of rules, but all you have to do is follow them and you’ll be fine. If I can do it, anyone can.
If you’re looking to get started with eBay sales, now is a fantastic time. For many products this time of year can be a little slow — so use that to your advantage and get your store set up now. Figure out your strategies, learn the ropes, and when sales start to take off you’ll be ready for it.
Take my word for it: selling on eBay will take you for a ride and a half and is a wonderful way to grow your home business.

I began selling on eBay a little over a year ago as a means to help make ends meet as we prepared for the birth of my second son. I started out with a couple of product lines I picked up at a salvage store (discontinued baby lotion, in fact). Then it just snowballed into PowerSeller status and now I have a store featuring dozens of different products, ranging from just over $5 up to $500 (occasionally). I have a second eBay ID on which I sell odds and ends not suitable for my my store’s niche.
Erika, I totally agree that it is a great home business tool and can be an awful lot of fun along the way. I taught myself how to do it solely through eBay’s tutorials available on their site. Later, after reaching PowerSeller status, I decided I should take it more seriously and picked up some PowerSeller books, only to discover that I was naturally doing what the books suggested. It’s that simple, if you set your mind to it.
Great article! I highly recommend opening an eBay store. If that seems too complicated, then just start small by selling through your regular ID. Opening your store will become a natural segue soon, though, and I probably would have been even more successful had I opened my store right out of the gate.
